Margaret Edna "Dollie" Widel

May 25, 1930 — March 27, 2023

Margaret Edna “Dollie” Widel passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023 at UNC Rockingham Nursing Care Center.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11am Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church located at 582 Southwood Dr., Eden, NC, 27288. Visitation will be held immediately following the service in the Gathering Area of the Church.

Dollie was born in Port Vue, PA, on May 25, 1930, to the late Edd and Margaret Pierce Stewart. She was the loving wife of 61 years to the late Howard Wesley “Junior” Widel, Jr. Surviving are her sons, Terry (Katie) Widel of Eden, Kenny (Linda) Widel of Eden, and daughter, LuAnne (Jack) Crowder of Reidsville.

Dollie adored her six grandchildren; Kelley, Todd, Jeffery (Sharon), Brittney, Nicole (Donnie) and Sabrina, along with her three great grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Hannah and Emma.  She was there for each grandchild’s birth, offering her loving support and was ever-present for other major events, as her health would allow.  Dollie is also survived by her brother-in-law, Chuck (Janet) Widel and sister-in-law, Brenda (John) Magyar and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons Richard and Jeffrey Widel.

For twelve years she and her husband would travel to Merritt Island, FL for the winter months, to escape the cold of PA.  While there, they formed a bond with many friends from New England, Michigan and Canada.

In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Dollie held several part-time jobs while the children were in school.  She and her loving husband enjoyed a variety of activities and were often seen dancing in their living room to their favorite big band music.  Dollie was an accomplished seamstress and especially enjoyed cooking, baking, making candy, crocheting, knitting, playing cards and swimming at the YMCA.  As an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Eden, she especially enjoyed participating in the Young at Heart activities each month.  She was frequently recruited to make her famous potato salad for church events and those invitations brought her great joy.

The family would like to thank Belinda “Lindy” Corum, her longtime caregiver, the Nursing Staff of UNC Rockingham Nursing Care Center for their personal care, and for Hospice of Rockingham County for their weekly visits and attentiveness, along with monthly pastoral messages and Holy Communion.

In lieu of flowers, we are asking that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Rockingham County or First Presbyterian Church of Eden.
