Louis Andrew Land, age 95 of 525 Franklin Street, Eden passed away on Saturday morning, December 17, 2016 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Tuesday at Spray Baptist Church with a visitation to be held one hour prior to the service from 1 till 2 pm. Burial will follow at the Land Family Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Land was born July 1, 1921 in Rockingham County to the late A.B. Land and Malissia Williams Land. He was a fourth generation member of the Spray Baptist Church. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. Louis was a volunteer for over 35 years with "Meals on Wheels" and retired from Ryder Trucking after 40+ years as a driver.
Louis enjoyed horse back riding in his early years and loved going to his beach house with his wife, Hazel and family.
Preceding him in death along with his parents was wife, Hazel Newmon Land; daugher, Malissia Beatrice Land; brothers and sisters, Herman, Viola, Bernice, Revena, "Doc", Elmer and Coleen.
Surviving are daughter, Penny Land Carter of Eden; grandchildren, Frank Dale Carter (Sheree) and Dena C. Dalton (Lee); great grandchildren, Logan Andrew Dalton, Evan Conner Dalton, Peyton Jordan Carter and Ethan Dale Carter.
