Lorene Roberson Pritchett, 93, formerly of Eden passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm Friday, September 27, 2024 at Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 144 Mt Hermon Church Rd, Bassett, VA 24055.
Born in Bassett, Virginia in the summer of 1931 to the late Herbert Charlie Roberson and Myrtle Agee Roberson, Esther “Lorene” Roberson was the second in line of seven children. At eighteen, she got married to Raymond Ernest Harris and soon after had two sons. She worked hard to provide for her young family as a single mother in the 1950s and then met the love of her life, Buck Pritchett, who she married in 1961. She and Buck enjoyed trips to the beach, a good game of Rummy, and dancing to Patsy Cline.
They raised Buddy and W.E. Harris and when she became a grandmother at 38, they helped raise their two granddaughters as well. Lorene was a mother to two, a grandmother to six, a great-grandmother to sixteen, and a great-great-grandmother to five; all of whom she loved to brag about to anyone who would listen. As her family grew, Lorene also became step-grandmother to five and step-great-grandmother to one.
As a child born during The Depression, Lorene was incredibly resourceful. She learned to sew at a young age and enjoyed making clothing, Halloween costumes, and quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On any clothing item she made you could be sure to find her signature tag that read “Made with love by Granny”.
A dedicated hard-worker, she spent 42 years working for DuPont, first in textiles and then finishing her career out in the chem lab. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling all over the country with her husband, her sister, and her brother-in-law. She collected coffee mugs from every state they visited and proudly displayed her large collection of them in her dining room for all to see.
She and Buck had a very loving thirty-four years together before he passed away in 1995. For the next twenty-nine years of Lorene’s life, she often spoke of Buck with her family to keep the love they had and his memory alive. As she aged, she enjoyed spending time with her family, doing yard work, and ensuring that she had the cleanest trash can on her street. She was full of antics and opinions, both of which will be missed dearly by her family and those who knew her. Lorene kept her spunky and sassy demeanor to the end. She was as tough as they come, had a fiery personality, and loved her family fiercely.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Winfred “Buddy” Harris (Dee) of Eden, W.E. Harris (Diane) of Eden; granddaughters, Jennifer H. Woods (Brian) of Eden, Tracy H. Edmonds of Eden, LeAnne H. Martinelli (Michael) of GA, Rebecca Harris of Apex, and Shanon H. White (Casey) of Eden; grandson, Tyler Harris (Nikki) of Wentworth; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; numerous other cherished family members and friends.
