Lisa Fuqua Poff

Lisa Poff age 69 was born on December 9, 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas. Her last breath in this life was on September 21, 2023 in Danville, Va. She graduated from Averette University in 1995 with BS in Biology. She also attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio and Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.

During her time at Southern Nazarene University, Lisa met the love of her life, Wesley who survives her. During their life journey together, they had the opportunity to visit many countries around the world. In addition to her love of traveling she enjoyed gardening. Never huge gardens but just enough to get that special homegrown taste. Another joy in her life was keeping the nursery at her church, Trinity Wesleyan of Eden, NC. She also served Danville Calvary Church of the Nazarene for more than 25 years as church treasurer and as a nursery worker.

Lisa was employed by Danville Regional Medical Center for 34 years before retirement on December 31, 2019 as a Medical Technologist in the laboratory.

She is survived by her two children: daughter Jennifer and husband Steve Starkey of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and son Michael Poff and wife Emily of Indianapolis, Indiana. She was blessed to be called Nana to Adalyn Starkey and Rohan Starkey who survive her. Lisa is also survived by her brother Larry Fuqua of Colleyville, Texas; sister Jan Fuqua of Arlington, Texas; stepfather Robert Shavers of Silsbee, Texas; mother- in-law Susie Poff of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; brother and sister in laws Doug and Glynna Poff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Betty and Tod Southworth of Lebanon, Tennessee along with several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased in death by her father John Robert “Bullet” Fuqua; her mother Betty Fay Shavers and father in-law Lloyd Poff.

Lisa was an incredible support to her Savior, family, church and friends. She was loved deeply by her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. What a blessing to know that she has now has experienced her first breath in heaven and free from cancer!

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on September 24, 2023 at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Eden, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow on Monday at 11:00 AM September 25, 2023 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 3883 Alum Ridge Road NW, Floyd, VA 24091.
