In 1954, he married the love of his life, Ann Gilbert Jeffries, and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage and had three children and five grandchildren.
Lewis served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class. He was deployed to France during the Korean War and was honorably discharged before heading home to work at Fieldcrest Mills. When he retired from the blanket department, he was a much-loved supervisor. Much of whom he was, he learned from his close friends Jack and Flora Gammons who served as mentor and guides to him throughout his adolescence and adulthood. He was a man who loved a good project and could often be found in his workshop fixing or repairing something. He had a kind heart and always looked to serve others.
Lewis is survived by his children, Jimmy Jeffries (Tammy) of Eden; Sandra Schultz (Mike) of Greensboro; and Gilbert Jeffries (Maureen) of Glen Rock, N.J.; grandchildren, Sarah Ann Schultz, Tyler Gainey (Brian), Andrew Schultz (Janie), Spencer Jeffries, and Nathaniel Jeffries; sister, Jeanette Bowling; and special niece Penny Hopkins, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, Arthur L. Lowe, Lewis is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann, who passed in 2023.
