Laura Hodges Price Hampton Hawley

February 25, 1923 — February 22, 2012

Mrs. Laura Hawley passed away on February 22, 2012 at her daughter's home in Saint Louis, MO after several years of declining health.

A graveside memorial service will be held, locally, at Lawson Cemetery in Eden at 2 PM on Wednesday, March 21. Mrs. Hawley will be laid to rest beside her husband of 30 years, James H. Hampton and in sight of the gravestone of her first husband, Charles B. Price.

She was born February 25, 1923 in the Roanoke, VA area to Mark Hannon Hodges and Ruby Alice Boitnott Hodges. While visiting Eden, NC in 1939, she met and married Charles B. Price. During the 1940's they owned and operated three neighborhood grocery stores on The Boulevard and in the Spray, NC area. They had one son.

Her husband died in 1952 and she remarried in 1954 to James Harris Hampton, also of Eden. In 1955 they moved to Greensboro, NC where they had three daughters and resided until Mr. Hampton's death in 1983. During that period, while raising a family, she worked, earned a cosmetologist's license and thereafter operated Laura's Beauty Salon on Hillside Drive for about 15 years.

In 1992 she married again to John B. Hawley and they resided together in Jamestown, NC until his death in 2001.

Mrs Hawley is survived by three brothers, Mark, Jr., Buddy and Elwood Hodges; and one sister, Judy Hornberger. She is also survived by one son, Charles B. Price, Jr.; three daughters , Lena Hampton Filchem, Pattie Hampton Schmidt and Terri Hampton Derryberry; eight grandchildren, Charles B. Price, III, James H. Price, Sasha Flinchum, Natalie Flinchum, Jena Jackson, Tamara Schmidt, Andrea Schmidt and Caroline Derryberry; two great-grandchildren, Justin H. Price and Mitchell G. Price.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Alvin, James, Jack and Robert Hoges; and five sisters, Georgia Mize, Belva Siemasko, Opal Hornberger, Helen Steward and Lila Ruth Hodges.

Through nearly ninety years, she never lost her enthusiasm for life. She endured the deaths of many loved ones, several major health events and always picked herself up, turned the page and struck out once more into the future. She never stopped believing that anything is possible if you focus and are willing to work for it.

The family will meet with guests and celebrate her life at Fair Funeral Home on Boone Road in Eden following the graveside service. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
