Laura Clark Gordon Williams

Laura Clark Gordon Williams went to Heaven on Wednesday October 7, 2015 in Greenville, South Carolina.

She was born in Spray (Eden) North Carolina, on April 15, 1921 to The Reverend William Jones Gordon and Mrs. Anna Clark Gordon. Laura was an early member of St. Luke?��Ǩ�Ѣs Episcopal Church of Spray North Carolina, where her Father served as the first Rector.

Laura graduated from Leaksville High School in 1938. She graduated from Saint Mary Junior College in Raleigh, North Carolina, attended Columbia Bible College (CIU), and graduated from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois in 1943.

For two years Laura taught Bible in the public schools of Tazewell, Virginia. Laura married The Reverend Donald E. Williams, LJG, U.S. Navy in December 1945. In, 1946 the couple volunteered and under the auspices of The Presbyterian Church (USA) went to Recefe, Brazil as well as the Amazon and other Brazilian regions to serve for thirty years as missionaries. After retirement they returned to Black Mountain, North Carolina where they were active in church and a myriad of volunteer opportunities.

Preceding her in death her husband The Reverend Donald E. Williams, her parents The Reverend and Mrs. William J. Gordon, her sisters, Mrs. Nancy Dameron and Ms. Almeria Reston Gordon, and a brother the Rt. Reverend William J. Gordon, Jr.

Surviving family members include two sons Donald Williams Jr. of Asheville, North Carolina and Gordon Williams and wife Ann of Rabun Gap, Georgia. Three daughters, Jocelyn Williams of Greenville South Carolina, Jennie Rochelle of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Leeanna Bryant and Husband John of Manassas, Virginia. Ten Grand Children and one Great Grandchild along with three sisters: Ms. Jocelyn Gordon of Eden North Carolina, Ms. Mary Irwin Gordon of Kingsport Tennessee, and Mrs. Grace G. Pless and husband Cecil of Asheville North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held on October 24 2015, at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church at 10am, Black Mountain North Carolina, with internment to occur at 9:15am in the Church Garden.
