Lanford H. Stone, 86, of Eden, passed away Monday afternoon, October 8, 2012, at Morehead Nursing Center.
A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, October 11, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.
Lanford was born July 31, 1926 in Axton, VA, son of the late Henry Clay and Mamie Lou Earles Stone. He was a member of Osborne Baptist Church. Mr. Stone was a World War II Marine veteran who served in the Pacific. He received several medals including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star which was presented to him in 1998 by Senator Richard Burr. He retired from Miller Brewing Company in 1991 where he was a tool and die maker. He enjoyed several hobbies including golfing, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his son, Lannie and wife, Rhonda; daughter, Lori Hancock and husband, Roger; grandsons, Grayson Stone, Chad Stone, Joey Hancock and wife, Denise and Jason Hancock and wife, Francine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Mae Edwards Stone and his infant brother, Lazelle.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter at 162 LeGrande Drive in Eden.
The family would like to especially thank the staff on the West Wing at Morehead Nursing Center for the special care that they gave Lanford and for always getting him his pimento cheese sandwich and coffee and and him telling them to "put it on my tab, and get you one too".
