Juanita "Polly" Rakestraw Robertson of Eden, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026. She was born on June 25, 1929, in Rockingham County to the late John W. Rakestraw and Martha Carter Rakestraw.
In memory of Juanita, a graveside service at 11am Friday, March 20, 2026, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Juanita, affectionately known as “Polly,” by her family, was one of ten children. She was married to the late John Ray Robertson, and together they raised four daughters. She worked as a sewer in the bedspread and sheet finishing departments for Fieldcrest Mills in Eden. She loved sewing, tending to her flowers, swinging on her front porch, and caring for her dog, Sam. An excellent cook, Juanita cherished family gatherings and the opportunity to serve her loved ones a meal. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who deeply loved her family. Juanita was also a dedicated member of Osborne Baptist Church in Eden, NC.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Rakestraw; her husband, John Ray Robertson; her brothers, William and John Rakestraw; and her sisters, Bessie Everett, Mary Sutton, Pauline Loftis, Soula Mae Knight, and Evelyn Glaspie. She is survived by her daughters, Jean R. Slaughter, Joyce Lowe (husband, Ray), Frances Dehart, and Dale Smith (husband, Jeff); her sisters, Hazel Martin and Betty Sparks; her ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the care staff at The Landings of Rockingham. We would also like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff from Ancora Compassionate Care, and Juanita's personal hospice nurse, Carol Walker Vanderwerf. We also give a special thank you to Juanita's loving friend and sitter, Sheila Gwynn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care at 2150 NC-65, Reidsville, NC, 27320.
