Josephine Thacker Heffinger

Nellie Josephine (Thacker) Heffinger, 87, passed away on July 29th with her daughter at her bedside at UNC Rockingham Hospital in Eden, NC. A private burial was held on July 30th at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Va.

Josephine was born May 28, 1937 in Martinsville, Va. to the late Dorsey C. Thacker and Nellie Nora O’dell Thacker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William H. Heffinger, and her only son William Von Heffinger.

Josephine was a 1956 graduate of Drewry Mason High School. She worked at Karastan in Eden, NC before becoming a fulltime homemaker and mother. Josephine enjoyed sewing, crocheting, making flower arrangements, along with making handmade crafts. Spending years, along with her late husband, selling her handmade crafts at Craft Shows and most recently at the Eden Flea Market.

Left to cherish her memory is her only daughter, Debbie Heffinger Murdock (Wayne) and only grandson Curtis Wayne Murdock. 

The family would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, especially Dr. Vendura, nursing staff and special friends, Missy Marshall, Donna Weeks and Amy Erskine for all their support during Josephine’s most recent illness.
