Joseph “Joe” William Robertson, 74, passed away peacefully at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital on March 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Friendly Church of the Living God Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia. The family will host a reception for friends and relatives from 4–6 p.m. on the same day at the Morehead-Fair House.
Joe was born on April 23, 1950, in Leaksville, North Carolina, to the late Reverend Gus T. Robertson and Margaret Trent Robertson. He was the longtime owner of Joe’s Triangle Pools for 40 years, as well as Joe’s Triangle on Highway 87. Joe attended John Motley Morehead High School and was a proud member of the 1966 NCHSAA State Basketball Championship team.
As an adult, Joe enjoyed traveling throughout the Southeast, playing travel softball with teams including Joe’s Triangle, Wilson Roofing, and Lawrence’s A’s. He was instrumental in establishing the Morehead Basketball Boosters, serving as President for several years, and dedicated his time as an assistant coach for basketball teams at Holmes Middle School and Morehead High School. He was a member of the Eden Moose Lodge, 864, and a Moose Legion Member, 158. A devoted Tar Heel fan, Joe loved watching UNC basketball games.
Each October, Joe and Lorna cherished spending the month in Myrtle Beach with their beloved “beach family,” and they also looked forward to their monthly trips together to Cherokee.
Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lorna Meeks Robertson; his daughter, Dr. Amanda “AJ” Robertson Shepherd, and her husband, Michael, of Richfield, NC. He adored his two grandsons, Rhett and Tucker Shepherd. He is also survived by his sisters, Arlene Campbell (Mike) and Jeanette Wagoner (Bob); his sisters-in-law, Jean Robertson, Linda Kallam (Donnie), and Laura Bradford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Perdue; his brothers, Ronald Robertson and G.T. Robertson; his sister-in-law, Karen Hundley Robertson; and his brother-in-law, Demp Bradford, Sr.
