John Ray Taylor, 84, of 407 S. Long Street in Eden, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 4, 2017, at Brian Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 7th, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 - 8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery with military rites being performed by the Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard.
Mr. Taylor was born November 6, 1932 in Cascade, VA, to the late Edward and Bertha Ray Taylor. He was a graduate of Brosville High School and a US Army veteran who served during the Korean War. John was a member of Cascade Primitive Baptist Church in Cascade, VA. He retired from E. I. DuPont in Martinsville, VA.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bonita East Taylor of the home; son, James Taylor of Eden; daughter, Linda Hopkins and husband, Larry of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Sam Hopkins, Jennifer Hopkins, and Grayson Weatherman; and sister, Beatrice Weddle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Biggs, Eldean Knight, and Reaves Gray; along with seven brothers, Jim, Robert, Ralph, Russell, Otis, Calvin and Alfred Taylor.
