Joe Alden Weddle

Joe Alden Weddle, age 91 of 257 Michaux Road, Cascade, Virginia passed away on Friday July 8, 2016 in Eden, NC.

A funeral service will be conducted  2pm Monday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden, NC by the Rev. Dr. J. Haywood Alcorn. Internment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 -2 pm.

Born April 22, 1925 in Floyd County, Virginia he was the eldest son of Newton Eller Weddle and Treva Boone Weddle. 

He lived most of his life in Cascade and was a Navy Veteran of World War II serving on the LCI 270 in the Pacific theater.  He was a member and deacon of Willis Memorial Baptist Church and before his retirement, was owner/operator of Cascade Lawnmower Repair.

He was married to Hilda Smith on December 4, 1946.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Joan Weddle Whitt and husband, Bobby of Raleigh, NC; a grandaughter, Shannon Thompson Oliver and a great-grandson, Andrew "Drew" Oliver of Holly Springs,NC; brothers,  Ray Weddle of Floyd, VA and Rudy Weddle of Myrtle Beach, SC ; sister-in-law, Beatrice T. Weddle and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Weddle and four sisters, Ruby Weddle, Evelyn Wade, Margaret Largen and Fern Kidd.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Willis Memorial Baptist Church, 5212 Cascade Road, Cascade, VA 24069.
