Jewel Taylor Mccanless

Jewel Taylor McCanless, 94, formerly of 808 Cascade Avenue and most presently of Morehead Nursing Center of Eden, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Hospice House of Rockingham County.  She was born on June 20, 1921 in High Point, North Carolina to the late Jesse and Emma Taylor.  Jewel was a member of Summit Road Church of God.  She was a CNA and worked later in life for the Brian Center.  Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Orval Joseph McCanless, Sr.; her children, O.J. McCanless, Jr., Dale McCanless, and Shelia McCanless; grandson, Joey McCanless III; three brothers and one sister.

 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Vonda Higgs, 213 Grant Street, Eden, NC.  Interment will follow the service in Dan View Cemetery.

 

Jewel is survived by her granddaughters, Vonda Higgs and husband, Boyd of Eden, NC, Ronda Dion of Winston-Salem, NC, Fonda Booton and husband, Jonathan of Raleigh, NC, and Danielle Thornton and husband, Mike of Bunn, NC; grandson, Jonathan McCanless of Buffalo, NY; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

 

The family would like to give thanks to Morehead Nursing Center and a special thank you to Ms. Bertha Mease for the care she gave Jewel during her stay.
