Jewel Faye Cooper, 88, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Jacob's Creek Nursing and Rehab Center in Madison.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 8, at Overlook Cemetery, Meeks section.
Miss Cooper was born May 1, 1930 in Spray, NC, to the late Clarence Farrell Cooper and Mertis Shelor Cooper. She was a member of North Spray Christian Church and an employee of C. P. Smith Department Store in Leaksville, NC for 13 years. It was, then, the oldest merchant in Leaksville. Jewel was a 1965 graduate of Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.taught "Headstart" and "team teaching" in the Eden City Schools for four and a half years before moving on to Northeast Academy in Lasker, NC, for a year. She also taught for two years, Jewel Cooper Kindergarten at North Spray Christian Church. Later she was an employee of Tri-City Pharmacy and Walker Pharmacy. She was a member of the first organization called "The Breakfast Club" where Mr. Neal O'Neal cooked breakfast for them at the Central Hotel in Leaksville. The breakfast was paid by the employers for their employees to enjoy. She was also a member of the Business Women's Professional Organization, the National Teachers Organization and the Almeria Gorden Bible Study Group.
She is survived by niece, Teri Snead of Charlotte and cousins, Debbie Moorefield Williams of Mt. Airy and Thomas W. Murray of Winston-Salem.
