James "Jimmy" Voss

James Lee "Jimmy" Voss, 84, of 1620 Ashley Loop in Reidsville, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at Annie Penn Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 28, at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery with military rites to be performed by Rockingham Veteran's Honor Guard and the US Army.  The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 601 Ashley Loop in Reidsville.

Jimmy was born February 26, 1934 in Spray, NC, to the late Floyd A. and Lucy Shumate Voss.  He was a US Army Veteran. Jimmy was a member and Deacon of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.  As a very active member of his church he had served as Sunday School Secretary and served on the Church and Grounds Committee.  He was a member of the Gold Star Sunday School Class.  In his younger years, Jimmy was a law enforcement officer in Burlington, NC and Danville, Virginia.  He retired from E.I. DuPont in Martinsville and later retired from Fair Funeral Home as an assistant funeral director.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Voss of the home;  two sons, Steve Voss and wife, Candy of Eden and Mike Voss and wife, Donna of Ruffin;   grandsons, Brian Gibson and Joel Voss and wife, Ellie;  granddaughters, Delana Voss and Rebecca Strader;  great-granddaughter, London Strader;  sisters, Emma V. Washburn of Eden and Linda V. Tuck and husband, Mack of Nathalie, VA;  and special nephew, Robert Corum and wife, Angela.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Durham Voss and granddaughter, Stephanie Gibson.
