James “Jimmy” Everette Hatcher, 82 of Sandy Ridge, NC, was taken HOME by His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Camden Place Health and Rehab in Greensboro.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm Monday, January 19, 2026, at Dan View Cemetery in Eden.
Jimmy was born December 18, 1943, in Draper, NC, to the late Ebb Hatcher and Nellie Mangrum Hatcher. He was a graduate of Morehead High School, class of 1963, and a stout member of Morehead Black Panthers Football Team. Jimmy was an excellent house painter, and painted many homes and the Draper Pentecostal Church in Draper back in the day, was primarily a Welder and also a Millwright, working to help build a post office and a Sears building in Greensboro, NC. Jimmy also worked in insurance and at Pinkerton Security for a time. Jimmy was the proud owner of the “Orange Blossom Special” hot rod. He loved his family more than anything else, especially his grandkids, who he prayed for every night before going to sleep.
Surviving are his wife, Melinda Allen Hatcher of the home; sons, Jerry Hatcher (Keli) of Sandy Ridge and Stephen Hatcher of Eden; grandson, Logan Hatcher; granddaughters, Amy Hatcher Loving (John) and Jessica Hatcher; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Naomi Loving; aunt, Elizabeth “Libby” Blackwell; close cousins, Laverne Hall Bethay, Steve Hodges, Berneva Hudspeth, and Karen Mangrum.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his grandson, Grayson Hatcher; sister, Barbara “Bug” Smith; aunt, Irene Grogan; and cousin and good friend, Russell Hatcher.
