James Robert Glidden, beloved brother and friend, was born on March 29th, 1948 and passed away peacefully on June 17th, 2025 at his sister’s home in Williamsburg, VA.
A funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Eden on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 11:00am. Burial will follow the service at Overlook Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
James was a decorated Vietnam War veteran, earning many awards for his bravery, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His Army career spanned from 1967-1969 in Vietnam and from 1976-1977 in Germany. Despite the devastating effects he suffered from the war, Jim developed a sharp wit and became a master of puns. Even on his deathbed he could leave his nurses and caregivers in stitches.
James was generous with his time and resources, sitting with friends in nursing homes every day until they passed and caring for his aging mother in her final years. He earned the love and respect of many whose lives he touched. He will be sorely missed by all.
He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Meyer of New Milford, CT and Dianne Bargatze of Williamsburg, VA; nephews Sean Bargatze of Reisterstown, MD and Dylan Bargatze & wife, Lisa of Cincinnati, OH; niece Laura Pitchard of Avon, CT; and close friends and second family, Larry and Kristie Rorrer and family of Eden, NC.
