James Edward Robertson

James Edward Robertson, 98, of Eden, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his home in the presence of his beloved son, George.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm, Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery. Military Honors will be given by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 2-3pm, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.

James was born March 21, 1925, the son of the late Jesse and Ella Robertson. James proudly professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Spray Baptist Church. He remained a dedicated member for the rest of his life at Spray Baptist Church.

James dedicated his life to serving others in the name of Christ through the Meals on Wheels Program, the Eden Kiwanis Club, and as a deacon at Spray Baptist Church. James was well known for his storytelling, often sharing his experiences as a US Army Air Corp Serviceman during World War II, growing up during the Great Depression, being a first-generation college student at Elon University, and starting his own small business: Rockingham Insurance Agency. James was also well known for his hobbies, which included watching the stock market and tracking different stock rates, completing Sudoku puzzles in record time, frequenting Wendy’s with his group of friends for lunch, and walking a mile everyday around the track after lunch.

James was united in holy matrimony to Gloria Aheron Robertson of Eden, NC, on May 19, 1951. Their union was blessed with two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. During high school, James entered the US Army Air Corp to serve in World War II as a radio operator. Upon his return to the states, he attended college at Elon University. After college, he began working at Duke Energy while also starting his own small business, Rockingham Insurance Agency, with his friend and business partner William Rudd, Jr. James was a dedicated husband and father, supporting his wife Gloria and his two sons, William (Bill) and George. James continued to work at Rockingham Insurance into his 90s.

James Robertson’s life will be forever cherished in the lives of his children: the late Bill (Linda) Robertson of Huntersville, NC and George (Tammy) Robertson of Eden, NC. His three grandchildren: Michael (Abbi) Robertson of Huntersville, NC; Shelby (Zeke) Robertson of Raleigh, NC; and Maggie Robertson of Raleigh, NC. His great-grandchildren Skylar, Daphne, and Charlee Robertson of Huntersville, NC. James is survived by his son George Robertson. James is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Robertson, his son, William (Bill) Robertson, his mother and father, and his siblings Mary Anne and Nancy.
