James Derrill Carter, 71, of Stoneville, passed on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
A funeral service will be held 2pm Monday, March 7, 2022, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden, NC, with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery in Eden. A visitation will be held 4-6pm Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Fair Funeral Home.
James was born September 28, 1950, in
Leaksville, NC, to James Brown Carter and Joy DeHart Carter English. He worked as a transportation manager at Dutalier in
Martinsville, Va, until his retirement. James was Baptist by faith and attended
First Baptist Church in Stoneville. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home and watching westerns. James found his serenity sitting on his boat in the middle of the lake.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maria Land Carter; children, Frank Carter (Sheree) of Stokesdale, Kevin Carter (Shannon) of Rockwell, Dena Dalton (Lee) of Stoneville; step-son, Shane Minter; 6 grandchildren, Peyton, Ethan, Kayla, Sophie, Logan, Evan; 6 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Wilson of Callands, Va.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his step-daughter, Amy Minter; 2 step-grandchildren.
