James (Bill) William Coleman, 86, of 348 Floyd Road in Eden, passed away Tuesday morning, June 4, 2013, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 6, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Stoneville City Cemetery.
Mr. Coleman was born February 13, 1927 in Wilcoe, WV; son of the late Emmett Amos Coleman and Lydia Patterson Coleman. He was a World War II US Navy veteran, serving from 1942 to 1947. In 1948 he enlisted in the Army and served until 1950. On October 30, 2010, he took part in the Flight of Honor to Washington DC, with other WWII veterans, to see the monument that was erected in their honor. Mr. Coleman was a member of the "Veterans of Under Aged Military Service"; joining the Navy at 15 years of age. Mr. Coleman worked many years for Gravely Furniture Company. He later worked for Macfield before retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his two daughters, Dorothy Ellington and husband, Gary, of Stoneville and Donna Goggin of Mason, OH; sons, Barry Coleman of Mcleansville, NC and Jim Coleman and wife, Risa, of Ridgeway, VA; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and one "Jake", his grand-dog that stayed by his side for the last days of his life; brother, Paul Wilson Coleman; and sisters, Regina Ann Allen of Mayodan and Alice Eugina Glover of Denton, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Dalton Coleman; brothers, Emmett Amos Coleman, Jr. and Charles Ember Coleman; and sister, Lucy Elizabeth Ward.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 7 - 9 PM, at Fair Funeral Home.
