Irene Moretz Meeks

Irene Moretz Meeks, 83, of 210 W. Meadow Road in Eden, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at her home.  

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 30, at Overlook Cemetery.

Irene was born September 18, 1932, in Spray, NC, to the late B. E. and Jessie Giles Moretz.  She was a graduate of Tri-City High School and a retiree of Dan River Mills.  After her retirement, Irene worked as a waitress at El Jeno's and The Reid's House.  

She was survived by her daughter, Daphine Moretz Vernon (Roger) of Eden;  three grandchildren, Sonya Vernon of the home, Jessica Vernon and Denise V. Hedgepeth, all of Eden;  five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Ashton, and Chloe Vernon and Harleigh and Darrell Hedgepeth;  brother, Chris Moretz of Eden;  sister, Jewel Helms of Rock Hill, SC;  and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Meeks;  brothers, Charles and Gene Moretz;  and sisters, Ruby, Doris and Joy.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside and other times at the home of her daughter, 325 Monticello Street in Eden.
