Herbert “Herb” Francis Sellers, 91, of Reidsville passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1-2pm.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in St. Augustine, Herb’s parents were Newell and Olah Austin Sellers. After graduating from high school in 1952, he joined the navy and served for four years. He was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. He worked as a residential home representative for Duke Power for over 30 years. He served as past president of Rockingham Home Builders Association, past Exalted Ruler of Reidsville Elks, President of Rockingham Duke Power Retirees, was a member of the Reidsville Jaycees, volunteered with the Boy Scouts and with Hospice of Rockingham County. He was also a Gideon.
Herb was a nature lover, enjoying hunting, fishing, and anything to do with the great outdoors. He loved traveling to many states, including Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, The Dakotas, Kansas, and Texas. He was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan. Herb loved all animals, especially his dogs and cats, and always made sure his birds were fed. He called his pit bulls, Henry and Charlie, his “fur babies, as well as “Baby Cat.” Herb was a regular at the Eden Post Office and the Railroad Café where he had his own reserved stool and paid $4 for anything.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Ann O’Dell Sellers; son, Herbert “Bert” Wayne Sellers (Lee); stepchildren, Sheree Joyce Mills (Allen) and Robert “Bobbo” Joyce; grandchildren, Megan Joyce Kidwell (Cole), Ben Mills, Jack Mills, Doug Corum; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He also had a “chosen” daughter/angel, Marcia Davis.
In addition to his parents, Herb is preceded in death by his sisters, Margie Evans and Hilda McMullen; brother, Gauldin Sellers; grandson, Ethan Neal; stepdaughter, Dawn Joyce Neal.
