Hazel Adele Owens Hicks

May 22, 1924 — November 15, 2017

At the age of 93, Hazel Adele Owen Hicks passed away peacefully at Morehead Nursing Center on Wednesday night, November 15, 2017.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, November 20, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born to Kate Nance and Harden Owen on May 22, 1924, Hazel was the last surviving child from a family of 13.  She grew up on the Price Road in Leaksville (Eden) where she met her future husband, Norman Ray Hicks, who was also from a family of 13.  Hazel graduated from Leaksville High School and attended business school where she learned her skills for bookkeeping for Norman while he owned and operated Hicks Sheet Metal Shop on Washington Street in Eden.

Hazel attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Eden where she was a member of the choir, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader.  Hazel was a nurturing sister and friend for her sisters and brothers.

Surviving family members are her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Frank Poole of Greensboro, her son and daughter-in-law, Ray and June Hicks of Eden, and her two grand-dogs, Maggie May and Peaches.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and caregivers of Morehead Nursing Center, and a special family friend, Jessie Allen for her care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cooperative Christian Ministries (Food Pantry), PO Box 931, Eden, NC  27289.
