Harold Way Matthews, Jr.

Harold Way Matthews, Jr., 91, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022 at UNC Rockingham Health and Rehab in Eden, NC.

A family graveside service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at El Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1pm – 1:45pm, at Fair Funeral Home in Eden.

Harold was born September 13, 1931, in Leaksville, NC, to the late Harold Matthews and Ruby Ferguson Matthews. Harold served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, class of 1953. Harold worked as Superintendent of Eden City Schools until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Eden.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Edward Matthews (Laura) of Atlanta, GA; son-in-law, Bruce Nooe of Eden, NC; grandchildren, Caroline Nix of Huntersville, NC, Charlotte Matthews of Manhattan, NY, Crosby Matthews of Manhattan, NY, Bennet Nooe of Eden, NC, Campton Matthews of Atlanta, GA; brother, James Matthews of Eden, NC.

In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Deitz Matthews; daughter, Cheryl Matthews Nooe.
