Gwendolyn "Gwen" Hopkins Jeffries

July 1, 1939 — February 5, 2024

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Hopkins Jeffries, 84, of Eden passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at UNC Health Rockingham Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Thursday, February 8, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Draper with burial to follow at DanView Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 5-7pm at Fair Funeral Home in Eden.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son Chris Jeffries, 200 Pratt Rd, Eden, NC.
Gwen grew up in Danville, VA, in a loving family home. Her mother and father were devoted to raising her and instilling family values that she would carry with her throughout her life.

Growing up as a teenager in the 1950s meant plenty of sock hops and roller-skating rinks. The skating rink is where she met the love of her life, a Draper boy named Jerald Jeffries. They married on June 7, 1959, and began their marriage of 52 years. Starting their family Jamey was born in 1962 and Chris in 1973. Throughout the years, Gwen still enjoyed dancing and even continued roller-skating.

In 1987 she accepted her savior Jesus Christ. She joined First Baptist Church of Draper and soon got involved with the choir and also the Awana’s Club where she would touch so many young peoples lives.

Her grandchildren meant the world to her and her to them. Gwen attended every school function, baseball game, and graduation that she could. She was so thrilled to be included in the help of babysitting and planned day trips, when she had them, to the park and activities that they still talk about today.

Left to cherish these and many more memories are her sons, James “Jamey” Jeffries and wife, Martha, of Eden, Christopher “Chris” Jeffries and wife, Wendy, of Eden; grandchildren, Paul Jeffries, Olivia Jeffries, Alex Jeffries and fiancé, Maggie Joyce, Levi Hale, Heather Tuggle, Justin Hankins; great-grandson, Jordan Stratton; brother, Ronnie Hopkins and wife, Carolyn, of Danville; special friends, Lynda McDaniel, Larry and Francis Rumbley, Len and Gail Garrett.

Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Jerald L. Jeffries; parents, Martin V. Hopkins and Dolly Lynch Hopkins; brother, Marvin Hopkins; sisters, Peggy H. Buck and Kay Spina.

Special thanks to the staff and doctors at UNC Health Rockingham Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
