Gussie Lee Snipes

Gussie Lee Snipes, 91, of 10655 Highway 700 in Pelham, passed away Sunday evening, June 16, 2013, at his daughter's home.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 19, at Lively Stone Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Snipes was born December 5, 1921 in Kershaw County, SC. He was the son of the late Gus and Fannie Hopkins Snipes. Mr. Snipes married his wife, Susanna Reeves Snipes in 1942. They moved from Kershaw to Danville, VA in 1956 to work at Dan River Mills. He opened a store in Pelham, NC and bought a home the very next year. In 1966 he went to work for Fieldcrest Mills and worked there until his retirement at the age of 70. He was a member of Shady Oak Baptist Church in Providence, NC.

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Winn of Pelham; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susanna; daughter, Eve Smith; sons, Billy Lee Snipes and Bobby Snipes.

There will be a short visitation period 30 minutes prior to the service (10:30 - 11 am) at the graveside and other times at the home of his daughter, 10671 Hwy. 700 in Pelham.
