Grover Petis Younger, 94, of Eden, was called home on Monday morning, March 6, 2017, at the home of his daughter.
A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, March 9, at Fair Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, 997 Harris Street in Eden.
Mr. Younger was born September 24, 1922 in Mt. Airy, NC to the late Plez Younger and Ila Brown Younger. After his service as a Chief Steward in the US Merchant Marines during World War II, Grover purchased his first Five & Dime Store. He later purchased four more and ran all of them for the next 30 years. Grover then sold them and operated a car business for several years, as well as being a general contractor. As a young couple, Grover and his wife, Paula enjoyed vacationing with their children at the beach and mountains. In his later years, he spent time with his wife and the family he loved. He was a member of Central Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Paula Lillard Younger; son, David Younger and wife, Melissa; daughter, Laura Vernon and husband, Mike; granddaughters, Mandy Dehart, Meagan Jones and Monica Morton; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Gavin, Talyn, and Daylen; sisters, Joy Wooten and Jewel Smith; and sister-in-law, Sis Younger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Grover Curtis Younger; sisters, Nellie, Ruby and Violet; and his brother, Jerry.
