Gloria Aheron Robertson, 97, of Eden, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at her home in the presence of her beloved husband.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family has chosen to have a private graveside service at Overlook Cemetery on Wednesday, February 3, at 1 PM. Please wear face coverings and practice social distancing. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook for those unable to attend. She will lie in repose on Tuesday from 12 Noon to 6 PM at Fair Funeral Home.
Gloria was born February 18, 1923, the daughter of the late Daniel and Bertha Vestal Aheron. At an early age, Gloria proudly professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Spray Baptist Church, where she remained a dedicated member for the rest of her life. Gloria dedicated her life to serving others in the name of Christ.
During her membership at Spray Baptist, she helped with Sunbeams, the Girls’ Auxiliary, the Royal Ambassadors, Sunday School, playing the piano for her Sunday School Department, participating and leading in WMU, caring for the Sunday morning altar flowers, playing handbells, and singing in the church choir. Gloria was well known for her passion of creating beautiful spaces, lending this talent to the decorating of Spray Baptist Church’s worship and fellowship hall throughout each year.
Gloria was united in holy matrimony to James Edward Robertson of Eden, NC, on May 19, 1951. Their union was blessed with two children, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a second great-grandchild expected in Spring 2021.
Gloria graduated from Leakesville High School in 1940. She received a prestigious award for having perfect attendance with no school tardies for her entire educational career. After high school, Gloria went on to work for the Central Telephone company working the switchboard and billing department. Then, Gloria focused her work being a full-time stay-at-home mother to raise her two boys. Once her boys were older, Gloria began working at the City of Eden Water and Billing Department where she later retired after 14 years of service.
Gloria Robertson’s life will be forever cherished in the lives of her children: Bill (Linda) Robertson of Huntersville, NC and George (Tammy) Robertson of Eden, NC. Her three grandchildren: Michael (Abbi) Robertson of Charlotte, NC; Shelby Robertson of Raleigh, NC; and Maggie Robertson of Eden, NC. Her great-grandchild Skylar Robertson of Charlotte, NC. Gloria is survived by her brothers, William Aheron of Dallas, Texas and Wilfred (Anne) Aheron of Rock Hill, SC. Gloria is preceded in death by her mother and father and her siblings: Sunshine Hall, Havans Joyce, Iris Earps, “Tidge” Rudd, and George Aheron.
