Gilmer Douglas Underwood

March 7, 1928 — February 16, 2017

Gilmer Douglas Underwood, 88, of 136 Meeks Road in Eden, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 19, from 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of Melanie Clark, 203 Grant Street in Eden from 1 - 4 PM on Saturday afternoon.  There will be no formal service. 

Mr. Underwood was born March 7, 1928  to the late Jesse and Mae Belcher Underwood.  He was a US Army veteran, serving from 1946 - 1948.  He worked as a truck driver for many years and never met a stranger.  

He is survived by his wife, Colleen C. Underwood of the home;  daughters, Marice "Reece" Underwood and Diane Clark (Kenneth);  sisters, Marcilene Emerson (Arthur), Tootsie McBride and Novella Earles (Bill);  five grandchildren, Amy Stowe, Neal Frazier, Amanda Teeters, Melanie Clark and Tabatha Mills;  11 great-grandchildren, Karen Stowe, Zachary Stowe, Alexis Frazier, Tyler Frazier, Aiden Frazier, Jake Frazier, Jamison Teeters, Justice Teeters, Evan Mills, Troy Mills and Ayla Mills;  and three great-great-grandchildren, Brayden Stowe, J. J. Stowe, and Austin Heath.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Danny, David and Mark Underwood;  sister, Betty Stultz;  grandchild, Lori Clark;  and great-grandchild, Heather Stowe.
