George Wayne Butler

George Wayne Butler passed away Friday, June 19th at his residence in Stoneville. He was 88 years old.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd at 2:00pm in the Fair Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held at Fair Funeral Home on Monday, June 22nd from 5:00-7:00pm. Burial will follow the service at El Bethel Presbyterian Church.

George was born August 14, 1937 to the late George Madison Butler and Eva Fagge Butler. He participated in several employment opportunities during his lifetime. George was a flight attendant then he went to Radiology School to become a Certified Radiologist. Before George went to work in hospitals he was the EMS Director of Rockingham County for several years. He worked in several hospitals in North Carolina and Virginia, retiring in 2018 from Morehead Hospital as Chief Radiologist. He was a member of the Masons and Eastern Star. Reading was one of his favorite hobbies and traveling with family.

He is survived by his wife Patsy Oakley Butler, sister, Pam Robertson (Kenny), brother Charles “Eddie” Butler (Patti), numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his adopted grandchildren; Hadlee James, Bowen James, Jace James, and his forever sidekick cat named Shadow.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Butler, sisters, Virginia Pratt and Martha Jo Johnson.
