Garvin Lee “Buddy” Sawyers, Jr., 75, of 350 Crutchfield Road, Reidsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be held at Fair Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 2:00pm with visitation from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Overlook Cemetery.
Buddy was born on September 13, 1950 in Eden (Leaksville), NC, to Garvin Lee “Bud” Sawyers, Sr. and Celestine Harris Sawyers. After dating the love of his life, Dolores Fay Troxler “Deedee” for eight years, they were married on December 3, 1972, and shared 53 ½ years of grateful marriage, raising two daughters, Jamie Lynn and Julie Lauren.
Buddy was a John M. Morehead 1968 graduate and a 1969 graduate of Forsyth Technical College in diesel mechanics in Winston-Salem, NC. He then worked as a firefighter, concrete driver, auto repair mechanic, in textiles, and settled into being an over-the-road truck driver for 25 years, retiring from Millis Transfer, Inc.
Over the years, Buddy enjoyed being a ham operator (call letters KE4ZPO), fishing, camping at the beach, fixing up his “junk” projects, and eating: loving ice cream and peanut butter and ALL chocolate. He loved to make people laugh, being called “the funny man” to see a smile or hear a laugh. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and kindness that hopefully will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jace Tucker DePriest, Buddy is survived by his wife, Deedee; daughters, Jamie Talley (Jon), Julie DePriest (Jeff); his grandsons, Tyler Lee Swift (Morgan), Lucas Brandon Knight, Jr. (Taylor); and his great-grandsons, Benjamin Lee Swift and Liam Thomas Swift. He is also survived b one aunt, Orene Martin, and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care or Covington Wesleyan Church.
Heartfelt thankfulness to all Buddy’s doctors for his last six months of care. A special thanks to all of his doctors – Dr. Mallipeddi, Dr. Wert, Sarah Martin and staff and Dr. Zack Hall’s office, Ancora Compassionate Care – nurse Rhonda Lucas; staff, Stephanie, Brittany, LaShonda, Leandra, Kim, Jennifer, and Chaplain Linwood. Your kindness goes beyond words. God bless you all.
