Frances Gilbert Jarrett, 86, of Cascade, passed away Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, VA.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 23, at First Baptist Church of Draper. Burial will follow in the Jarrett Family Cemetery in Cascade.
Mrs. Jarrett was born September 6, 1926, in Draper, NC, daughter of the late Sam and Purnell Motley Gilbert. She was the valedictorian of the Class of 1943, Draper High School, and worked for 39 years for Fieldcrest Mills. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Draper, teaching Sunday School for 65 years, singing in the choir, playing the piano and hosting missionary families. Mrs. Jarrett also enjoyed her Cascade community groups, including the Ruritan Ladies Auxiliary and Cascade Village Homemaker's Club. She especially enjoyed flower gardening and traveling.
She is survived by her son, Jay Jarrett and wife, Sherri, of Woodstock, VA; daughter, Susan Jarrett Schlacter and husband, Jed, of Long Island, NY; four grandchildren, Jack Bradley Jarrett III, Meredith Hope Schlacter, Scott Jarrett Schlacter and Laura Kathleen Jarrett; sisters Ann Jeffries of Eden and Mary Lewis of Madison; special niece, Gloria Chandler and husband, Jim; as well as two caregivers, Hope Breedlove and Vickie Martin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jack B. Jarrett; three sisters, Bernice Hankins, Carol Hopkins and Jean Gilbert and two brothers, Sammie and Charles Gilbert.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home.
