Everett Jackson "John" Hodges

Everett Jackson ��������?ᬮ���?�John��������?ᬮ��?? Hodges, 91, of 1815 South Avenue, Eden, N.C. died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital. He was born February 3, 1922 to George Harvey and Daisy Jarrett Hodges in Draper, N.C.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 3rd at the Fair Funeral Home Chapel at 432 Boone Rd, Eden, N.C. John requested his body be donated to the Duke Anatomical Gifts Program in Durham, N.C.; therefore, there will be no graveside service. Military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard, on the front lawn of the chapel, following the service.

He was married 58 years to Ruth Hall Hodges who died in June 2008, and is survived by his daughter Beverly of Raleigh, N.C. and son Stephen and his wife Kim and granddaughter Sheridan of Eden, N.C.

He is predeceased by his parents; brothers Harry, Saunders, Clyde; and sisters Inez and Agness.

John was President and Manager of Draper Lumber Co. from July 1947 until he sold the business in August of 1987. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of Arkansas. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a POW in Germany for 113 days. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Battle of the Bulge.

John worked with-served and supported most all civic and development organizations in the city and county. He assisted in developing the Draper Fire Dept; American Legion buildings, and recreational center. He served on the Board of Directors of the Eden Metropolitan Sewerage District, Morehead Memorial Hospital and Home Savings & Loan. He was a member of the Draper Lions Club, Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2nd at Fair Funeral Home.
