Eleanor Collins Spencer

Eleanor Collins Spencer, 88, passed away Monday night, April 4, 2011 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, April 7, at Immanuel Friends Church. Burial will follow in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens. A native of Rockingham County, Mrs. Spencer was born January 10, 1923, daughter of the late Harvey and Emma Vaughn Collins. She was a retiree of Dupont in Martinsville, VA. Surviving are her daughters, Linda C. Travis and husband, Edward and Debra K. Spencer, both of Eden; two grandchildren, E. Keith Travis and Jeffrey D. Travis; two great-grandchildren, Carly P. Travis and Josh R. Travis; brother, Neil Collins and wife, Evelyn of Fruitland Park, FL; sister, Opal Bailey of Princeton, WV; brother-in-law, H. L. "Roy" Barber of Jacksonville, FL; sisters-in-law, Lolene Collins of Eden, Ruby S. Ramsey and Mabel S. Atkins of Martinsville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband, Jerry Walker Spencer; brothers, Marvin, Nelson and Damon Collins; and her sister, Arie Barber. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at 1228 E. Meadow Road in Eden. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Friends Church, 502 S.
