Elbyrn "Ray" Leonard Shropshire, 91, of 319 S. Hale Street in Eden, passed away Monday afternoon, September 17, 2018, at UNC-Rockingham Health Care in Eden.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, September 20, at Overlook Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 - 1:45 PM on Thursday, at Fair Funeral Home, before proceeding to the cemetery for the service.
Mr. Shropshire was born December 14, 1926 in Roanoke, VA, to the late Henry Clay Shropshire and Annie Bondurant Shropshire. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a former member of the VFW. Ray was a retired truck driver for G.E. and a member of Teamsters Union Local 391. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, flowers, and just being outdoors, in general.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Haymore Shropshire of the home; daughter, Debbie Adkins and husband, Bill, of Sugarland, TX; son, Randy Shropshire and wife, Crystal, of Eden; two grandchildren, Andrew and Rebecca Adkins; and brothers-in-law, Gene Chambers and Babe Chambers, both of Axton, VA and Jim Chambers of Yanceyville.
