Edward "Ham" Roy Kasten

Edward “Ham” Roy Kasten, 91 of Eden, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026 at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 11am Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville.

Edward, “Ham”, was born December 4, 1934 in Rockingham County, North Carolina, to the late Roy J. Kasten, Sr., and Iola Kallam Kasten. He was baptized at and attended Pleasant View Baptist Church. He worked as a fixer, mechanic, at Fieldcrest Mills until his retirement. Edward was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a champion skeet shooter, winning many awards in his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are his grandson, Joshua Taylor Kasten; great-grandchildren, Robert Thomas and Lucy Taylor; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Evans; brother, Paul Larry Kasten; daughter-in-law, Susan Turner Kasten; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Wayne Boyette, Robert Rorrer, Jerry Grogan, Toby Holley; members of RCC Gun Club and members of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gracie Mae Freeman Kasten; son, Roy Joseph Kasten “Jr.”; grandsons, Kameron Scott Kasten, Robert “Robby” Edward Kasten; sisters, Janine Kasten Wright, Ann Kasten Etheridge; brothers, John Michael Kasten and Jerry Lee Kasten; and favorite cousin, Steve Turman.
