Edith Lancaster Smith

April 20, 1926 — December 30, 2012

Edith Lancaster Smith, age 86 of 406 Greenwood Street, Eden went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, December 30, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, at Hopice Home of Rockingham County.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday January 2, 2012 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery.

Edith was born April 20, 1926 in Stoneville, NC to the late Bremen J. and Lucy Lancaster. She graduated from Stoneville High School Class of 1947. She was retired from E.I. Dupont in Martinsville. She was a devoted member of Central Baptist Church and was an avid vegetable gardner. Edith was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandma. Along with her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Marvin Lancaster.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Calvin E. Smith, two daughters, Susan Priddy and husband Wesley, and Sylvia McCrory and husband Mac; sisters, Annie Tilley of Walnut Cove, Margie Conte of Richmond, VA,; brother, Marion Lancaster of Greensboro; grandsons, Charlie Pyron of Greensboro, Matthew Pyron of Eden, Wesley Priddy of Eden; granddaughter, Natalie Pyron of Washington,DC; special niece, Darlene Dunn of Charlotte, who was like a daughter and who remained faithful and devoted; numerous other nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Gena Hardy, caregiver and friend. Also, special thank yous to Dr. David Tapper for his years of care and encouragement; Dr. Jim Parsons for his care at Morehead Memorial Hospital and the third floor nurses and aides. Thank you also to the nurses and aides at Hospice.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 -8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home.
