Dwight Douglas “Doug” Vernon, 67, passed away on May 4, 2025. Born on April 6, 1958, Doug was a lifelong resident of North Carolina whose love for the outdoors and nurturing spirit touched many lives.
Doug is survived by his mother, Vera Vernon of Reidsville; his sisters, LaVern Vernon and Lisa Earles, both of Eden; his brothers, Gary Vernon and wife Vickie of Stoneville, Wade Vernon and wife Lisa of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Chris Vernon of Reidsville; and his best friend, Susan Woods of Eden. He was a beloved uncle whose deep connection with his nieces and nephews brought him immense joy and pride.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Gilmer Douglas Vernon; his paternal grandparents, Tom and Nannie Vernon; and his maternal grandparents, Charlie and Ora Bell Barnes.
Doug was well known in the community for his years of work at Johnny’s Produce (owner and dear friend, Jackie Brammer), where his friendly nature and eagerness to help others made a lasting impression. He loved beach music and the ocean, spending as much time as he could along the coast. A passionate and dedicated gardener, Doug found peace and purpose in tending to all things that grow. His love for the outdoors was contagious, and he passed that appreciation on to the next generation of his family.
In keeping with Doug’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Family and friends are welcome to visit and share memories at the home of Lisa Earles, 153 Royal Rd, Eden, NC.
