Dr. David Lee Call passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, in Eden, North Carolina, at the age of 75.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Dr. Call was born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to Conley and Jean Lackey Call. He graduated from Wilkes Central High School in 1969, where he was a football and track athlete, an honor student, a member of the elite “Highlighters” choral group, and an Eagle Scout. David was also a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a recipient of the prestigious Morehead Scholarship, a full-ride merit scholarship. David was a triple major in Chemistry, Mathematics, and English. David knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. He graduated from the UNC School of Medicine and completed his residency in radiology at Duke University in 1981.

That same year, David joined Dr. Carl Nash in medical practice in Eden, North Carolina, where he built a successful career over the next 33 years.

David married his high school sweetheart, Jane Ferguson Foster of North Wilkesboro in 1974 at First Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro. Together, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May 2024.

He is survived by his wife, his three daughters Dr. Adrienne Rulon and husband Nick, Danielle Elzik, and Larissa and fiancé, Wayne, two brothers, Dr. Kenneth Call and wife Linda and Steven Conley Call and wife Pamela, three sisters, Dianne Ferguson, Linda Raper and husband Larry, Rebecca Joyce and husband Gary as well as three grandsons, Adrick and Callum Rulon and Sammy Ward.

David and his bride honeymooned in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a place that would hold a special place in his heart for the rest of his life. He loved the ocean, enjoyed fresh seafood, and made it a family tradition to return to Myrtle Beach nearly every year, creating cherished memories with those he loved.

David had a lifelong love of reading and music. He enjoyed listening to and playing music, particularly opera, bluegrass, and jazz, and was a talented mandolin player. Growing up, he rode his pony, “Fury,” to school every day. He had a competitive spirit and a special knack for cards, winning nearly every game of hearts he played and never passing up an opportunity to “shoot the moon.” He was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed many games with Jane as his partner.

David was extremely bright, had a wicked sense of humor, an amazing memory, and knew more useless facts than anyone. His family always suggested he should go on Jeopardy. He worked hard throughout his life for the family he loved and was known for his generosity. He was a longtime member of the Eden Kiwanis Club and an active member of First Baptist Church of Eden, where he was a deacon and sang in the choir for many years.

He had a special affection for animals and often said that a house never felt the same without a pet. His cats, Pumpkin and Ringo, were especially fond of curling up in his lap.

One of David’s most cherished traditions began in 2020, when he started a weekly Zoom gathering with his wife, daughters, and grandsons. These regular conversations provided a treasured opportunity to stay connected with the people he loved most, and they became a meaningful part of his life.

David will be remembered for his dedication to his profession, his love of family, his generosity, his musical talents, and his quick wit and competitive spirit. Above all, he leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in his wife, daughters, grandsons, and all those whose lives he touched. He will very missed.
