Douglas Norman Coone, Sr.

January 2, 1935 — January 30, 2018

Douglas Norman Coone, Sr., 83, of 776 Circle Drive in Eden, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 30, 2018, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 3rd at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Doug was born January 2, 1935 in Leaksville, NC to the late Willie Stafford Coone and Ada Oldham Coone.  In his early years he worked for Karastan Rug Mill.  He worked for the Industrial Education Center in Eden and later became the first employee of Rockingham Community College as their Machine Shop Instructor.  During his time at RCC he was attending classes at NC State University.  Doug was a member of River Oak Church of God in Danville, VA.  Through his church, Doug worked with Smoky Mountain Children's Home in Sevierville, TN for 13 years.  

He is survived by his wife, Sallie Slaughter Coone of the home;  son, James Bernard "Bernie" Coone (Cindy) of Stoneville;  two daughters, Brenda Coone Jarrett (Wyatt) and Andrea Coone Mize (John East), both of Eden;  eight grandchildren, Michael Coone (Amy), Chris Coone (Amber), Jason Coone (B. J.), Cassie Jobe (Jason), Bryan Coone, Lacey Allen, Josh Wade, and Jessica Wade;  and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Norman Coone, Jr. and sister, Lorene Coone Ferguson.
