Dorothy Joyce Claybrook

March 31, 1922 — November 2, 2017

Dorothy Joyce Claybrook, 95, of Stoneville, passed away early Thursday morning, November 2, 2017, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Hodgin Memorial United Methodist Church.   Burial will follow in Stoneville Municipal Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday evening at Fair Funeral Home from 6 -8 pm.

Mrs. Claybrook was born March 31, 1922 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Charlie Livingston Joyce and Bessie Ann Rhodes Joyce.  She was a graduate of Stoneville High School, Class of 1939.  Dorothy was the oldest living member of Hodgin Memorial United Methodist Church and sang in the Choir and was treasurer for UMW for many years.  She retired in 1984 as the bookkeeper from Claybrook Tire.

Dorothy had her priorities straight in life...God, church, family and friends.  She was a living example that LOVE is more than a word.  Love is action that will continue throughout all eternity.  Her loving kindness to all who had contact with her will always be memorable.  She had a peaceful presence about her and her life reflected that peace.  Her family will always cherish the memories that we hold in our hearts of her.  She was an extraordinary mother all wrapped into one wonderful human being. 

Surviving are daughters; Patricia C. Lawson and husband Joe of Bristol, VA., Gail C. Collins and husband Bob of High Point and Barbara C. Belton and husband Hugh of Stoneville; sons, Mike Claybrook and wife Karen and Joey Claybrook and wife Donna all of Stoneville; 14 grandchildren;  24 great-grandchildren;  4 great-great-grandchildren;  brother, Larry Joyce of Stoneville;  and son-in-law, John Cook of Stoneville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Andrew Claybrook; daughter, Carolyn Claybrook Cook; great-great-grandchild, Zach McGuire;  and brothers, Fred and Charles Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, food, etc., memorial contributions may be made to Hodgin Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 541, Stoneville, NC 27048 or Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC  27375.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Claybrook’s caregivers; Marie Aldridge, Mary Jane Atkins and Karen Claybrook, Dr. Don Moore and the staff of Hospice of Rockingham County.
