Dottie graduated from McDowell High School in Floyd County, Kentucky in 1952. She joined the United States Air Force on June 21, 1954 and served on the 3201st Boat Squadron. While stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, she met the love of her life, Fred Thomas Hand. They were married on June 3, 1955 in Eglin, Florida. She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force on September 20, 1955. After moving to Rockingham County, Dottie gave her life to the Lord and was baptized on July 30, 1961 at Leakesville Christian Church. She faithfully led her family to serve the Lord and enjoyed singing in the choir as well as teaching Sunday school. Dottie later became a member of Draper Christian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and sharing in the ministry of the Ladies’ Love Circle. Dottie retired from Fieldcrest Mills in 1995.

After her husband’s death in May 2022, Dottie moved to Gasburg, Virginia where she lived until her health required her to move to Clarksville Health and Rehab. While in Gasburg, Dottie worshipped with the Pleasant Hill Christian Church where she shared her joy and love with others.

Throughout her life, Dottie was known as a generous person. She was willing to share with anyone in need whatever she had, including her infectious smile and love for laughter. Dottie’s gentle spirit was evidence of her love for the Lord and was a blessing to all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the members of Pleasant Hill Christian Church for their love and support in her care over the past year, as well as the staff at Clarksville Health and Rehab for the love and dedication in her care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Draper Christian Church, Eden, N.C.
