Doris Mae Jarrett, 96, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025.
A funeral service will be held Saturday the 25th of October at 1:00pm at the Draper Christian Church where she was a life-long member, so faithful in so many areas of church service. Visitation will be held at 12:00pm, just preceding the service. Burial will follow at Overlook Cemetery.
Born January 11, 1929, in Draper, NC, Doris was the daughter of the late Jack Jarrett and Mae Warren Jarrett. She was also predeceased by her three brothers, Jack Jarrett, Bill Jarrett, and Nick Jarrett. She was reared by her stepfather and, or, uncle Mack Jarrett. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Mary Frances Ponder and her special brother-in-law, Lenny Ponder.
Doris is also survived by ten nieces and nephews: Malee Holt, Craig Holt, Laura Graydon, Jeff Ponder, Lisa Morabito, Sherry Klaus, Brad Jarrett, Jay Jarrett, Susan Schatler, and Lori Rayburn; two special great-nieces, carter Moyer and Caroline Fitts; one special great-nephew, Jeremy Ponder, and one extra special great-great-nephew, Graydon Moyer. Special South Carolina church friends are Don and Debbie Grooms and Marsh Tong. Doris helped with Hidden Creek Mission for several years with her sister at First Baptist of Simpsonville. Doris also liked to camp with church buddies.
For most of her life, Doris lived in the town of Draper (now Eden). In the business world, Doris served as secretary to the plant manager of Blanket Manufacturing at Fieldcrest Cannon. At one time, she served as secretary to the National Secretary Association and was editor of NSA Yearbook, and was a member of Eden Historical Society. Doris was active in politics, always working the polls and served as secretary to Zeb Dickson, who ran for governor of NC. She also did volunteer work at Morehead Memorial Hospital as a greeter to visitors.
The greatest joy of Doris’ life was her involvement in many areas of Draper Christian Church life, always dedicated to the task at hand. She served as pianist and organist through the years as needed in all services. She taught a Sunday School class of small children each year and was affectionately known as Miss Doris, or Mama, by the children. Doris was also very active in the Ladies Love Circle.
Doris had a great love for family and lived with and took great care of her mother, Mae Jarrett, in her late years of life. Doris’ life was one of service, always looking beyond herself to others. She will always be remembered as a very talented person, a Christian devoted to her Lord, and completely dedicated for accomplishing any task at hand. A life well lived, Doris will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
