Doris "Dot" Cayton

Doris “Dot” Coleman Cayton, 94 of Madison, NC, gained her angel wings on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at her home.

Doris was born in Leaksville, NC, on March 2, 1931, to Ernest Coleman and Lillian Odell Coleman, both deceased.

Doris retired from Fieldcrest Mills, where she worked for many years. She was a member of Wentworth Presbyterian Church. Doris was a lifetime Carolina Tarheel fan and never missed watching a game. She also shared a love for baseball, where she enjoyed pulling for the Braves.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Gale Cayton Moore of the home; several grandchildren, Dale Moore (Jeannie) of Madison, NC, Jessica Kennon (Craig) of Eden, NC, Ty Moore (Rain) of Greensboro, NC, Hannah Kennon, Gracie Kennon, and Gage Kennon, all of Eden, NC; daughter-in-law, Beverly Cayton of Durham, NC; granddaughter-in-law, Meredith Moore of Madison, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also survived by a special family friend whom Doris considered her other daughter, Renea White of Eden, NC.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her faithful, loving husband of 55 years, Roger Cayton; her son, Roger Darrell Cayton; her son-in-law, Gary Moore; her grandson, Dennis Moore; her brothers, Alfred, Ray, and Phillip; and her sister, Shirley Little.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to all the wonderful staff members at Ancora Compassionate Care of Wentworth, NC, for the wonderful care they provided. Also, a very big thanks to Sandra and Johnny Bishop for their help and assistance in caring for Doris.

Per Doris wishes, there will not be a formal service, but the family will receive friends and family at the home of her daughter, Gale, located at 121 Dan River Rd, Madison, NC.
