Doris Irene Barbee

Doris I. Barbee, 92 of Eden, passed away at UNC Hospital on Friday, October 2, 2026. By her side she had her daughter, Janice, and son-in-law, Robert Austin.

Mrs. Barbee was born May 13, 1934 in Stuart, Virginia to the late Rev. R. J. and Ada Shelton. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Barbee of Kinard, FL, her brothers, Otis, Tom, Harold, and sister Ruth, all of Eden, NC, and Lynn Davis of Kinard, FL.

Survivors are her daughter, Janice Austin of Eden, NC, Marcus Barbee, Jr. of Missouri, and Jamie Sweetman of Fl, nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Barbee lived in Ridgeway, Virginia where she married Dorsey Compton until they moved to Spokane, Washington. After her husband was discharged from the Air Force, they moved to Bradenton, Fl. After they divorced, she remarried Marcus Barbee and moved to Kinard, Fl, and lived there until her husband passed away. Mrs. Barbee moved to Eden, NC, to live with her daughter Janice and husband Robert Austin in 2015 until her death.

Doris was a loving wife and mother and had a kind heart and loving soul. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. She was a member of Grace Church of Collinsville, Va.

A celebration of life will be held at Grace Church, 100 Oak Rd, Collinsville, VA on October 25, 2026. Church Service at 10:30 followed by a meal and then her service officiated by her Pastor Gary Martin of Grace Church.
