Mrs. Dessie Bell Chandler Light, wife of the late William ��������?ᬮ���?�Bill��������?ᬮ��?? L. Light went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 29, 2013 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden, NC. There will be a graveside service at Overlook Cemetery, Saturday July 6th, 2013 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends and loved ones at the Morehead Fair House following the graveside service.
Mrs. Light was born on September 25, 1914 in Schoolfield, VA, the daughter of the late Walter and Lulu Chandler. Dessie married Bill Light on September 24, 1932 and were married for 74 years before his death in September 2006. Dessie worked for a number of years at Fieldcrest Mills, New System Laundry of Leaksville, Ridgway Clock and Gravely Furniture in Ridgeway, VA. Her last employer was K-Mart. A perfect job she was a greeter for K-Mart. Later in her life she worked at Burton Grove School as a volunteer. Dessie enjoyed working. But her heart belonged to the church and it was once said about her that when a person gets to the gates of heaven, they bet Mrs. Dessie will be there at the gates greeting everyone, waving and smiling as big as she can, saying ��������?ᬮ���?�hey there!��������?ᬮ��?? and talking to everyone. She never met a stranger and loved to be with children and people in general. She has been a member of North Spray Christian Church and Osborn Baptist Church in Eden. Dessie loved her church, reading the Bible, singing and clapping her hands. Dessie will be long remembered as ��������?ᬮ���?�Mrs. Dessie��������?ᬮ��?? to many, ��������?ᬮ���?�Granny��������?ᬮ��?? to even more, but as Nana to her family grandchildren.
Dessie is survived by one son D. Wayne Light and his late wife Margaret Sutliff originally from Eden. and a daughter-in-law Alice Light of Richmond, VA, the wife of her late son Talmadge Light. She is also survived by four grandchildren James T. Light and wife Charlotte of Austin, TX, and Robin Light Bowser and husband Bill of Smokerun, PA., David L. Light and wife Jeannie of Wanchese, NC, and Paige Shaheen and husband Scott of Richmond, VA., two step-grandchildren., six great grand children survive, Allison Chandler Light of SC, Connie Bowser MacFarlane of Altoona, PA., Angela Bowser of Cresson, PA., David Wayne Light of Wanchese, NC, Hamilton Shaheen and Chandler Shaheen both of Richmond, VA. Three great-great-grandchildren also survive Erik MacFarlane of Altoona, PA, Bryanna Bowser of Smokerun, PA, and Collin Sloan of Cresson, PA. One sister survives, Mrs. Fern Dew of Eden. Dessie was predeceased by one son, William Talmadge Light of Richmond, VA, formerly of Eden and Wanchese, NC. She was predeceased by her sisters Sally, Carrie and a brother George.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, private duty nurses and all the staff that cared for Dessie recently and over the years at Bayberry Inn, Morehead Nursing Center and recently Morehead Hospital. We will be forever grateful for your kindness and devotion to her and the comfort you provided for her.
