Deloris Shough Lemons, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026. Born on January 31, 1937, in Rockingham County, Deloris’s life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and a profound sense of devotion to those she held dear.
A funeral service will be held at Fair Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 14th, at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 10:00-11:00AM. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.
A proud graduate of the Tri City High School class of 1955, Deloris carried with her the lessons and friendships of her youth throughout her life. Her journey was marked by a spirit of generosity and an unwavering commitment to her family. Above all, Deloris treasured the life she helped build for her children, dedicating her boundless time, effort, and resources to ensure they had the very best opportunities. This selflessness stands as one of her proudest accomplishments, a testament to the depth of her love and resilience.
Deloris was a woman of many passions. She had a huge love for her dogs, companions who brought her comfort and joy. Her heart also yearned to explore, and she loved to travel, embracing the beauty and wonder of new places with open arms. Her spiritual life was anchored by her lifelong membership at Osborne Baptist Church, where she found community and solace. Many afternoons were spent joyfully playing cards with her church friends, moments of laughter and camaraderie that enriched her days.
She leaves behind a devoted family who treasured her nurturing spirit and gentle strength. Her daughters, Pamela E. L. Hayes and Tammy M. Lemons, along with her sons, Todd W. Lemons (and his wife Jackie) and Dale Lemons (and his wife Dottie), carry forward her legacy. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren will fondly remember the warmth and love that only Grandma Deloris could give. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her friend of many years Robin Foley.
Deloris was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Kesler J. Shough and Gladys McArthur Shough, her brother Billy Shough, her sisters Margaret S. Martin and Louise Shough, and one great-grandchild, Taylor Lemons. Their memories are cherished and live on in the hearts of all who knew them.
Loved beyond words and missed beyond measure, Deloris Shough Lemons’s impact on the lives she touched remains profound. Her memory will forever be a beacon of love, kindness, and the enduring strength of family bonds. In her passing, we mourn a remarkable life, rich in love and purpose, and celebrate the beautiful story she leaves behind.
