Debra Barker McCarty

Debra Barker McCarty, born on March 5, 1953, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at UNC Rockingham Hospital. She was 73 years old.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24th at 11:00 in the Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  A visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow the service at Overlook Cemetery,

A lifelong resident cherished by those who knew her, Debra, affectionately known as Debra Barker McCarty, led a life characterized by kindness, dedication, and vibrant interests. The values she upheld and the joy she brought into everyday moments will long be remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Debra was a proud graduate of Morehead High School, class of 1971. Her commitment to learning and personal growth was evident in her decision to further her education by attending Rockingham Community College. These formative years helped to shape the compassionate and determined person Debra became throughout her adult life.

Professionally, Debra devoted many years to serving others as a dedicated insurance agent. Upon retiring, she looked back on her career with pride, knowing she had made a lasting and positive impact on her clients and colleagues alike.

Outside of her professional accomplishments, Debra’s personal life was rich in warmth and meaningful passions. She was well known for her love of cooking, often creating wonderful meals that brought family and friends together. Her zest for exploration led her frequently to the mountains and the beach, both of which brought her peace and happiness. In addition, Debra held a deep affection for her beloved dogs, Bella, Lola  and Gabby, who were her loyal companions and a constant source of comfort.

Those who had the privilege of spending time with Debra will remember her for her generosity, her warmth, and her ability to find beauty and joy in everyday moments. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, treasured memories, and a spirit that will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughter Angela Allen, cousin Tony Edwards (Kathy)
