David Hunter Robertson, 71, a long-time resident of Hickory, NC and Eden, NC passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
Born September 18, 1952, David was the son of the late Hunter Dewey Robertson and Margaret Gilbert Robertson in Leaksville, NC.
David’s professional career was dedicated to service. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he worked part time in the volunteer fire department and rescue squad. After graduating, David moved to Hickory, NC and served as a driver, emergency medical technician, and hazardous material response special crew member for the Catawba County Emergency Medical Service until he retired. During his long career, he also served in the North Carolina National Guard as an Artilleryman and the Viewmont Volunteer Fire Department in Hickory, NC.
David’s passions included hiking, blue grass music, NASCAR racing, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was known for his humor and ability to deliver a good “one-liner.” He also shared many adventures with his beloved canine companions Buck, Casey, and Gus, who lived charmed lives with their own chairs, a steady stream of treats, and countless tales of mischief.
He is survived by his sister Karen Robertson of Eden, NC; his stepson Colonel Andy Blanton and wife Tracy with children Oliver and Mena in Woodbridge, VA; his stepson Jesse Blanton and his wife Hahn with children Janet and Henry in Kapolei, Hawaii; and a large and loving group of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces from the Robertson and Gilbert families.
The memorial service will be held graveside at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens, 1658 NC-135, Eden, NC at 1100am on Saturday June 15, 2024.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a meal in the private event space at Santana’s Restaurant, 436 E. Stadium Drive, Eden, NC immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to support David’s favorite causes. He frequently supported the Humane Society of Hickory, NC and the Dan River Basin Association.
